Kids say the funniest things.  And other times, they infuse inspiration.  The latter is what happened in preparation for today’s post.  I asked my 10 year old what he might want to know about a person before hiring her (or him) as his accountant.  Kind of a silly question for a 10 year old, right?   Apparently not.  He rattled off a list of several things, two of which jumped out at me: a picture of the person and try to learn as much as you can about who they are as people and not only as accountants.

“Why a picture?” I asked.  My kiddo responded that a picture “will show more of their personality than anything written about them”.  Hmm, I think you nailed it with this one, kid.  It’s been said that the eyes are a window to someone’s soul and a picture is worth a thousand words, right?  Getting a good gut reaction about someone you’re about to give your confidential business information to is imperative.  Learn to trust your instincts!

Learn more about your potential (financial) partner.  Another sage piece of advice!  Working with an accountant with whom you click may be the difference in your business thriving or crashing.  The accountant you choose will have your back and will want to help you (and your business) grow and not just because you pay their bills.  If you trust and LIKE your accountant, the relationship is more likely to reach its fullest potential.  As will your business.
