Does this picture speak to you?  What does it say?  I imagine some people see this Autumn view with the trees who have lost their leaves and the dark water in the background and think “It’s looks cold out there!  Time to stay inside!”  These are the views I have from my “desk” at my dining room table and this landscape definitely speaks to me this time of year.  The bright leaves (the ones that are still on the trees anyway), the brisk morning air, and bright warming sun begs me to walk outside and spend time in the outdoor world.  Autumn is one of my favorite times of year; I relish the more mild temperatures and less intense sun.  During the summer, my Irish heredity lends itself to being a delicate flower wilting quickly in the heat.  Or as my brother says, “When we’re in the sun, it’s a little like tinfoil in the microwave.”  😂

Whether the view tells you to stay inside or come outside to take a deep breath, the message is the same:  it’s time to slow down.  Retreat to reflect and recover from the fast-pace of summer fun.  Just as in nature, our bodies naturally crave a more leisurely pace and begin preparation for winter hibernation.  Perhaps it was this pull to wind down that reminded of one my favorite articles I read this year.  I even wrote about it during our self-care and love series in February and thought it apt to revisit to check in on my (and your!) progress.  If you missed it the first time,  do not despair: read it here!   My favorite quote from the article summed it up perfectly:

“True self-care is not salt baths and chocolate cake, it is making the choice to build a life you don’t need to regularly escape from.”

What have you done between now and last February to create this life?  If you haven’t taken a small step towards it, what will you do today to begin?  I’ve taken some big steps and some little ones.  Today, though, I’m going to gather a meal plan that involves soups and lots of them!  It’s a great way to nourish the body AND soul.

In the end, this is exactly what we want to help our clients do, too.  “Build a life you don’t need to regularly escape from.” that nourishes your mind and body.  Let us coach you to find your bookkeeping bliss and simplify so there’s less need to escape.  When you’re ready, we’re here.
